n Institute of Design and Merchandising in L.A. For me it is always important for my friends to know how much I appreciate them so I decided to make this for her. Well just in case your curious this is not my first clay sculpture this is actually my second. I previously gave my boyfriend a card made of class that is under reparation at the moment. Anyways Let me explain some of the elements of this cool present.
First of all the base is the only thing that I did not made it's a wood base that I purchase at the craft store and perfect base for my clay creation. On the sculpture I started first by creating the rug, it was probably one of the hardest things; I used a technique that i saw before on a clay magazine and I decide to try it on, I made various blocks of sheets of clay and squeeze them until I got the square-ish design, every single square was glue together so it is not one big piece, but around 70 little squares with different patterns.
I follow to do the cutting/sewing table which was easy except for the fact that keep falling down, it would just not stay together, it was a real pain in the but; so my mom suggested to add little pieces of toothpick to the legs to maintain the table up until cooking time. Some of the other pieces in the sculpture took no time to do such as the rolls of fabric, which are actually some of the left over sheets of clay created originally to make the rug. There is also the sewing Machine which I just put enough detail on it to make it look like an actually sewing machine. Other elements that added for more detail were the mannequin, a pair of scissors, a measuring tape and the FIDM sign. The other element that was really hard to create is the person which is actually supposed to be my friend Andrea, I started with the pants follow up with the torso & shirt, then the arm, detail on the fingers, the head, the eyes, the hair etcetera. I believe I still have work to do and hope to improve more to make my detail more precise. I hope everyone enjoys this idea, and feel free to comment and give suggestions and how to improve my detailing.
Thank you for reading
